Guava-coladas, and other fun things...

Last weekend was the first time in a while where Kyle and I didn't really have anything planned.
On Saturday, we found ourselves at the beach. There was beautiful weather, there was barely any wind, we had our books, our chairs, our hats, and we look up to see a huge seal on the shore. He was either sick or tired or old or something, but he looked like he was just resting for a bit. We were amazed at all the crazy people who wanted to get up close to the poor seal and touch him or take pictures or whatnot. He would try to move to get away, but people would crowd around anyway. The lifeguard was doing his darndest to try and keep people away, finally putting up huge signs to tell people to leave the animal alone. The best were the couple of parents who would take their kids over to look at the animal. One lady, while getting yelled at by the lifeguard, left her child squatting next to the live mammal to go yell at him. It got to the point where we started to root for the seal to bite someone, just so they could be taught a lesson.
Oh ~ and if you ever do come across a seal on the beach, they are federally protected. You have to stay 35 yards away, it's a $10,000 fine if you touch them, and if they bite you, you're quaranteened in the hospital for who knows how long.

Sunday morning we woke up and decided to go look at all the new models of lofts, condos and houses in the newly dredged Channel Islands harbor. They are building them very New York style, with tall lofts with even taller windows so you can see the harbor and ocean forever. After that, we had a failed attempt to go back to the beach (windy, cold) and decided cooking dinner at home would be the best way to end our Sunday. We headed over to Vons in our beachy-best and decided what to have for dinner. We wound up with the perfect decision - shrimp on the BBQ, fresh home-made guacamole, cajun chicken, and the best of all, coconut rum and guava juice. All weekends should end with a smile on your face, the hugs of your husband, and a glass of guava-colada in your hand. That, minus the sunburn, made for a great weekend.
