Dirty Girls

Dina, Cindy, Sandy, Donna, Leah, Mandi, Tina, Erika, Heidi, Amy, Tracy and Diana - sounds like a cute little Girl Scout Troop? Nope, it's our kick-ass softball team.

Last Saturday we played in a small ball tournament out in La Mirada. We had a genuine mish-mosh of players, pulling from our Thursday night team, a few players from other teams in that league, and a few old friends. I am especially proud that our team age range was from 18 - 49! I won't say who is who, but since Erika just graduated high school, I'll give you that one and let you figure out the rest.

We dazzled other teams with our bright orange/white/blue uniforms, because yes, yes we are that team that comes out in matching outfits, as seen below in the picture of Cindy and Tina. We are especially proud of our bright orange socks - thanks Tina!

We also know how to "do" a tournament. I must say, we were very organized with the emails beforehand, the figuring out who was driving who, the directions to get there, and the timing. We all showed up within 5 minutes of each other at the field! When we show up to play, we show up to stay the entire day. With a team made up ladies who have all been playing softball for a long long while, combined with the "mom factor", our team shows up well-prepared with food and drink to nourish our hard working minds and bodies for the entire day. We bring blankets, hang out in the shade, and sleep and snack whenever we get the chance. Whatever you need, chances are, someone has exactly what you're looking for in their bag.

Here's Cindy getting "game ready" and Dina getting her munch on before the game.

Donna's practicing her swing, while Erika shows us all how to be cool.

Sandy is a pro, and brought her shade chair, while Leah hooks up our tunes for the day. Tina's laughing on the right. We are very good at laughing all day long.

Tracy "no pictures please" came to cheer us on and make sure we were consistently and properly hydrated.

All in all, we had a great tournament day. While we were not totally impressed with the way the bracket was set up - "this bracket's a racket" as Cindy would say - we did have fun and no one was injured. We wound up losing the game right before the championship game, but that's alright. We'll be back again, and this time we're bringing back-up.

We went home, dirty, tired, and feeling like baked chickens out in the sun all day long, but it was worth it. We shall return, and we shall have our vengeance - or you know, just keep playing in more tournaments because we're good at it and we like it. Until next time!
