Happy Birthday, Now Jump!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MOM!

Can you guess where we took Mom for her birthday? We went skydiving! That's what happens in the Comer clan. You turn 60, we make you jump out of a plane for fun.

We tried to keep it a secret from Mom, so it could be a surprise when we got there, but using her Mom ninja skills of figuring stuff out, I'm pretty sure she knew where we were taking her. We drove out to the Lompoc airport, to a place called Sky Dive Santa Barbara. Since we were beginners, we all went on a tandem jump with a trained professional. Tandem is when you get strapped to the front of a professional sky diver, and get to enjoy all the fun of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, without the 8-12 hours of training needed to do it on your own. The training for a tandem jump lasts about 8-10 minutes. The most important thing is to remember body positioning, and don't worry about screaming because no one can hear you anyway. Plus, when you scream on the way down, the wind dries out your mouth and most likely starts to come out your ears anyway.

I don't know how it was decided, but Kyle and I jumped first. We went up in one airplane, then Mom and Dad went up in the next trip. We paid for an extra guy to jump with Mom and Dad, so he could videotape Mom's jump from the plane.
You get to wear these fabulous jump suits and harnesses that are so tight, you're glad you didn't eat a big lunch before you went.

After we went up and came down again safe and sound, it was Mom and Dad's turn.

Here are Mom and Dad going through the pre-jump training. We were taught to get down on one knee at the door of the plane, so you can roll out with your tandem partner on your back. Makes for an easy exit.

Jason is by far the smartest person in the Comer clan, deciding to keep two feet firmly planted on the ground and take pictures of us instead.

Yay! We all made it back safe and sound...until next time.
