Then what to my wondering eyes should appear, but 3 gorgeous deer! Thankfully, Toby was sleeping. We've seen deer before, mostly last year in fall and again in spring, but not so much this summer in the blazing heat. Kyle managed to take a few good pictures before Toby woke up and started barking as if Santa himself were in our backyard. As the deer were leaving, I did take Toby in the backyard on a leash, just to see what he would do. He and I sat politely on the patio right by the back door, trying not to look big and scary for the deer, as Toby kept right on growling, barking, and talking to them. The last remaining deer? Stood there and looked directly at us as if to say, "Is that all you've got?" Here are a few of our favorites:
