Ticonderogas and Other Addictions

I may have a slight problem.

I love the smell of a finely sharpened Dixon Ticonderoga in the morning.

I also love to organize.  I will organize the heck out of anything.  I will highlight an article to death, make notes in my notes (yes, I keep a book just full of notes so they can get out of my brain and on to paper), and I’ll put anything in a binder.  It bugs me when things aren't organized, but then again, only certain things.  Ask Kyle, there are definitely things around the house that haven’t been organized in weeks and months, but then there are those very few things that have been organized within an inch of their life.  I know, it’s a problem, but it works, and it is self-contained, and I know where everything is.

I was walking through Target this morning and what do they have out already?  School supplies!  In July! I should know better than to walk through this section, but the smell of brand new crayons calls to me.  A pack of 12 never-before-been-sharpened pencils screams my name.

A pack of 24 Crayola crayons for $0.50? Do I need them? No! Do I buy them? Yes! Why? Because they are $0.50 and still have the points on them. They are just sitting there, waiting to be brought to life. But do I keep them in pristine condition?  Never.  I use them.  I like to color, it puts my mind at ease and releases stress.  Unless you stress out about coloring outside the lines, in which case this theory is not for you.  I also bring them out when kids come over.  I make sure they get used to their fullest potential.  Crayons sitting in a box are no good to anyone. You have to let them come out and play!

2 glue sticks for $0.35? Yes, thank you.

A college lined notebook for $1? Yes please.  Folders for $0.15? Thank you very much.

Post-its for $1? Sharpie 2-pack for $1.50? Yes, I do believe I will.

Now really, do I need these? No. Are they fun to have in your office? Yes. Do I really need to buy them now? No. In fact, if and when I need them later, I will grab them and pay full price and not have the excitement I had today, but I will still do it.

Maybe on my next trip I will take a chaperone.  Now, who needs something organized?  Better yet, who wants to come over and color?
